Breast Surgery

Nipple Inversion

Nipple inversion refers to a condition where the nipple is retracted inward rather than protruding outward. Normally, milk ducts in the breast produce milk, which is then delivered to the nipple. However, if the connecting ducts are short, the nipple can be pulled inward, appearing sunken or inverted when viewed from the outside.

Surgery for inverted nipples can involve either cutting short ducts to release tension or manipulating surrounding tissue to create more space, allowing the nipple to protrude outward. The latter method, though it carries a risk of recurrence, is preferred by women in their 20s to 30s as it allows for breastfeeding after surgery.

 Nipple Reduction

Nipple reduction addresses cases where nipples are excessively large or dark in color. Even after a period of breastfeeding, nipples can remain large, with the surrounding area becoming narrow and contracted, resulting in an aesthetically displeasing appearance.

Surgery can effectively address this issue by lowering the base of the nipple in cases of excessive length or by removing and suturing the nipple in cases of excessive diameter. This procedure is relatively simple and yields favorable results, making it a comfortable option for patients.
